General Merchandise/Trade ControlGeneral Merchandise/Trade Control
The MBS General Merchandise/Trade Control module is an extremely flexible solution providing the structure for inventory management, purchase operations, and robust administrative reporting. Additionally, the GM/Trade module is fully integrated within the MBS Total Store Solution, working seamlessly with our EDI, POS, inSite for Web Commerce, Physical Inventory and Accounting applications.

MBS Merchandise/Trade Control Functionality Includes:
. Inventory Management
. Perpetual Inventory
. Purchasing
. Receiving
. Ticket Printing
. True Multi-Store and Multi-Company Capabilities
. Transfers
. Price Change Management
. Stock Ledger
. Sales Inquiries
. Extensive Management Reporting

The GM/Trade application is structured around the ISBN and/or the SKU item number. SKUs can be assigned up to three user-defined type codes (i.e., color, size, imprint). The module allows you to track sales, as well as on-hand and on-order information, at a greater level of detail while continuing to utilize one SKU number in price lookup on the point-of-sale device.

ISBNs/SKUs are grouped into Division, then Department, then Class, and finally Subclass. This vertical flow allows inventory and sales information to be categorized logically and tracked at various levels of detail. The MBS system allows for the flexibility of moving items within this logical structure, thus maintaining the integrity of the inventory and sales history. ISBNs/SKUs can be buyer and vendor sensitive, and a vendor and/or buyer may be assigned to a specific ISBN/SKU for analysis.

The flexibility of design allows you to maintain detailed information with the ability to view/report at selected levels for all components of the business. At the heart of this flexibility resides SKU Master File and UPC Translation, ably handling and communicating all of the information you need and allowing you to access that information with tremendous levels of detail.

Purchasing
Fully integrated with Receiving, Ticketing, and Accounts Payable, MBS Purchasing automatically defaults to various vendor-, store-, and item-related information in order to reduce input time (override capability is also built in). Purchasing functionality can be completely integrated with the MBS EDI application, providing the bookstore with the ability to send purchase orders electronically. The application is designed to electronically receive Purchase Order Acknowledgments (POAs), Advance Ship Notices (ASNs), and invoice data from the vendor.

Receiving
Receiving is integrated with Purchasing and Accounts Payable in order to ensure a match between Purchasing, Receiving, and Invoicing. When entering the received quantities, you can optionally enter only exceptions, greatly reducing keying time. MBS Receiving functionality is completely integrated with the MBS EDI application for the electronic receipt of ASNs from vendors.

Price Change Management
The Price Change capability provides a wide variety of options, allowing you to modify specific classes, departments, divisions, vendors, buyers, or the entire store stock.

Inquiries
MBS provides many online inquiries that are available within individual menus throughout the system. This functionality provides you with the vital information necessary for making fast, informed, profitable decisions. An extremely powerful online inquiry, Buyer's Trend makes outstanding use of your IBM iSeries unit's relational database by bringing you virtually any information related to the performance of the Class/Subclass of your choice.

Reporting
MBS provides for extensive user-driven reporting throughout the merchandising application. Reporting is on an exception basis, and menu-driven questions allow the user to easily format reports. Reports may be run in the evening in an unattended mode via the easy-to-use iSeries job-scheduling routines.
